JOB SUMMARY:
The Northside Economic Opportunity Network’ (NEON) promotes economic equity by identifying business ownership as a path toward income generation and long-term asset building. For the next three years NEON will increase work to start, support, sustain, and expand the number of culturally diverse businesses owned and operated in North Minneapolis.
The purpose of this position is to further our mission and develop small businesses in the communities NEON serves. The Business Advisor is accountable for working with NEON clients to offer business technical assistance, design, develop and conduct trainings and case management services.

The purpose of this position is to further our mission and develop small businesses in the communities NEON serves. The Business Advisor is accountable for working with NEON clients to offer business technical assistance, design, develop and conduct trainings and case management services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Case Management:
- Recruit and work with current participants to assist with pre-venture, emerging, and existing business needs. Assess, maintain, and advise an approximate case load of 25-35 business clients.
- Provide business readiness, coaching, and develop work plans to meet participants with their businesses and program goals.
- Track monthly statistics and ensure clients are working towards programmatic goals.
Technical Assistance:
- Business loan packaging.
- Business plan review and assessment.
- Work with clients to complete their business models and plans.
- Development of business income statements.
- Cash Flow Analysis of existing participants businesses.
- Work with clients on the basic business fundamentals in the areas of legal services, marketing, general business and finance.
- Assist clients with bookkeeping and business management.
Training and Workshops:
- Provide business related workshops and trainings to participants. Instruct and teach NEON’s entrepreneur training classes.
- Provide 1 on 1 consulting to training class participants.
- Submit monthly, quarter, and annual reports per agency and funder guidelines. Client track data entry as required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in business related field and/or equivalent combination of work, entrepreneur and educational experience.
- Knowledge of financial accounting and Point of Sale (POS) software: i.e.: Quickbooks, Square, TurboTax Preference in financial reporting and/or other IRS tax preparation
- Experience in working in diverse environments with clients of varying economic backgrounds
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience in client management, financial and business plan development
- Excellent organization, multi-tasking, proactivity, listening and communication skills when interacting with clients and NEON staff.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, best practices and federal and state /regulatory reporting requirements
- Training, consulting and presentation skills
- Ability to analyze financial data, prepare GAAP formatted financial reports, budget and financial forecast
- Ability to work effectively independently, in a team environment, and in collaboration with diverse groups
- Commitment to quality customer service and excellence
- Demonstrated computer proficiency along with excellent written and verbal skills
- Demonstrated ability to read financial statements, analyze data and have a basic understanding of accounting/bookkeeping functions.
