We offer spaces to work, expert guidance from NEON Business Advisors, mentorship, business incubation, development, training, and workshops.

JOB SUMMARY: NEON is seeking candidates for Small Business & Commercial Loan Officer position in the organization’s Lending Department. The Loan Officer will provide technical assistance and serve as the primary underwriter for small business and commercial real estate loan applications. The Loan Officer will have knowledge of public and private resources available to leverage NEON’s investment and will provide support to strategically deploy NEON’s array of financing products, including small business loan products and commercial real estate loan products. The Loan Officer will report to the Vice President of Lending.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. 90%
  • Provide technical assistance to borrowers on project planning, development models, and financing options.
  • Screen, structure, and underwrite financing requests, including analyzing operating performance, historical, and projected financial performance, management capacity, organizational structure, and project feasibility for small business and commercial projects. Present loan recommendations to NEON's Credit Committee and the Board of Directors, as necessary.
  • Manage the closing process for approved loans in consultation with NEON counsel. Collaborate with internal and external parties (banks, co-lenders, attorneys, etc.) to structure financings, including managing inter-creditor negotiations; reviewing real estate contracts, leases, and due diligence; and identifying and negotiating key risk mitigants, including reserves, guarantees, and other forms of credit enhancement.
  • Coordinate internal and external relationships critical to the economic development lending portfolio's growth, including relationships with NEON Business Development staff and other national and local lending and program partners.
  • Work with NEON management to develop strategic collaborations with public and private sector agencies at the local, state, and federal levels that leverage NEON's capabilities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, real estate, or related fields. Master’s degree preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience with small business, commercial, and/or multifamily real estate development is preferred, including project financing, market analysis, deal structuring, and financial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex transactions at various stages and coordinate with various internal and external parties to meet approval and closing deadlines.
  • In-depth knowledge of financing products such as predevelopment, acquisition, construction, bridge, permanent loans, and lines of credit.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with community development financial models, including but not limited to Small Business Administration (SBA), federal, state, and city subsidy programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated interest in NEON’s community economic development mission. Experience in lending to BIPOC-owned businesses.

Licenses and/or Certifications:
  • Valid MN Drivers' License, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet NEON's driving record requirements.
  • Certification of any mandatory State loan officer training or licensing required.
